“Nobody’s Home”

Whilst my illustration and ceramic work are strongly figurative, these paintings have left the human form behind. Only the ghosts of human presence remain in these vacant structures.

Structures which have been inspired by road trips in America. Abandoned roadside buildings and ghost towns in Nevada, delapidated desert dwellings around Joshua Tree and huge grain elevators and silos in Montana. Along with influences much closer to my coastal home. Ramshackle beach huts, fishermen’s huts and the random structures of Dungeness.

The simplified, flattened structures in these painting are archetypes, buildings in my mind, waiting for life to enter them again, for the return of a beating heart.

This is my series “Nobody’s Home”.
